Information stored on your devices
Your drink and water history, custom drinks, goals, metabolic profile, notification preferences and other app settings are stored locally in the app's shared device storage. This lets the iPhone app and its widgets use the same information. The Apple Watch receives the information needed to show your current status and support logging.
This information is not uploaded to a MyCaffeine user account because the app does not provide one.
Apple Health
Apple Health access is optional and each data type requires your permission. Depending on the features you enable, MyCaffeine may:
- read caffeine and water samples, including caffeine recorded by other apps;
- read weight, height, date of birth and biological sex to prefill the metabolic calculator;
- read sleep, resting and walking heart rate, heart-rate variability, respiratory rate, steps and active energy for Health Analysis; and
- write caffeine, water and, when separately enabled, calories, fat, saturated fat, carbohydrates, sugar, protein and sodium from logged drinks.
Health data is read from Apple Health and processed on your device to provide MyCaffeine's tracking, calculations and analysis. Data read from Apple Health is not sent to MyCaffeine's servers, Firebase Analytics, RevenueCat or advertising providers, and it is never used to personalise advertising.
If you edit or delete a drink, MyCaffeine attempts to update or remove the related Apple Health samples that it created. You can change Apple Health permissions at any time in the Health app or iOS Settings.
Branded drink catalogue and online services
MyCaffeine downloads its branded drink catalogue, regions and research sources from Google Firebase Firestore. These requests may involve standard network information such as your IP address, device and app information, and security tokens used to verify that requests come from the genuine app.
Your personal drink and water history is not uploaded to the catalogue.
Analytics
Firebase Analytics is disabled by default and is enabled only when the consent flow allows it. When enabled, it records app and device information and selected events used to understand and improve MyCaffeine. These events can include completing onboarding, creating a custom drink, opening a Health Analysis metric, completing a Pro purchase, and logging a drink or water.
Drink and water events include the drink type and the caffeine or water amount entered in MyCaffeine. They do not include your name, email address or data read from Apple Health.
Advertising
The free version may display ads supplied by Google AdMob. Google's consent system and Apple's App Tracking Transparency controls are presented where required. Depending on your choices and location, Google may process device identifiers, IP address, approximate location, ad interactions and other device or usage information to deliver, limit and measure ads.
MyCaffeine does not give Google information read from Apple Health for advertising.
Purchases
App Store purchases are processed by Apple. MyCaffeine uses RevenueCat to check purchase status and unlock Pro features. RevenueCat may process an anonymous app user identifier, device and app information, Apple receipt data and subscription or purchase status. Ryan Bush and MyCaffeine do not receive your full payment-card details.
Support, feedback and drink reports
If you submit a report from the app, the information you enter is sent through a Firebase Cloud Function and used to create or update an issue in the MyCaffeine GitHub repository. A report can include its type, title, description, country request, optional email address and, for drink reports, the relevant catalogue entry. Bug and drink reports also include device model, iOS version, app version, build, locale and selected catalogue region.
GitHub issues may be publicly visible. Do not include sensitive personal or health information in a report, and provide an email address only if you are comfortable with it being included with the issue.
Data export and sharing
CSV and JSON exports are created locally on your device. MyCaffeine opens the iOS share sheet so that you can choose where to save or send them. Once you share an export, the destination you choose is responsible for handling it.
Third-party services
- Apple for the App Store, Apple Health, notifications and platform services;
- Google for Firebase, Analytics, consent management and AdMob;
- RevenueCat for purchase and entitlement management; and
- GitHub for support and feedback issues.
These providers process information under their own terms and may process it in countries outside your own.
Retention and your choices
Local information remains on your device until you delete it in the app or remove the app. Apple Health data is controlled through Apple Health. Third-party providers retain information according to their policies and service settings. Support issues may remain in GitHub until they are no longer needed or a valid deletion request is completed, subject to legal and operational requirements.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction or deletion of personal information handled by the developer, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To make a request, email support@ryan-bush.com.
Security and children
Reasonable technical and organisational measures are used to protect information, but no system can guarantee absolute security. MyCaffeine is not directed at children under 13, and the developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes and contact
This policy may be updated as MyCaffeine changes. The latest version will be published on this page with a revised date.
